The list of mares at the Stow Shetland Pony Stud in 2016 includes the now deceased 'Stow Black Velvet', a pony that holds a special place in the hearts of Jim and Renee Swan. Any list that they present would, in their minds, be limited without her inclusion. The list starts with the matriarch 'Stow Victoria'. Each listing includes the registration number of the pony (SPSBS number), the names of the sire and dam and their registration numbers, where appropriate. Each listing also includes the Grandsire and the Granddam, together with a short resume of the horse's history and its place at the 'Stow Shetland Pony Stud'. |

Stow Victoria [013591M] Sire: Merrymaster of Netherley (002531S) Dam: Wells Vision (011213M) |
A prolific show winner, Stow Victoria has won more overall horse championships than any other Shetland Pony that we, at the stud, can think of. She is the “marker” for the entire stud of standard height ponies and is a prolific breeder of show prize winning ponies. These, in turn, are now breeding top quality winning progeny for other studs, as well as ourselves. Victoria, through her daughters and sons, is included in at least one branch of all of our retained standard height ponies. |

Stow Violet [AJ0683M06-468] Sire: Tweedside Spotlight (AD0311/S97-044) |
Stow Violet is a full sister to Velveteen. She has been lightly shown and has enjoyed some success at local shows. In our opinion, she may be our most successful breeder of colts and fillies. |
|
Stow Black Velvet [017314] Sire: Wells Renown (003468) |
An outstanding show winning pony, Stow Black Velvet was only once ever beaten for a championship in the show ring. On that occasion, it was by a pony from our own stud. Her wins include: Junior, Female and Overall Shetland Pony Champion at RHAS in 1990. Unfortunately, we lost her at a very young age, after she had bred only one foal. Her colt foal (Stow Vinnie) was Champion at a Central Scotland Shetland Pony Breed Show and is now on stud duties in the Shetland Isles. |
